Celltrion's Omclero claims 90% market share in Spain for urticaria treatment

Celltrion announced that its medication, Omclero, used to treat asthma and urticaria, is estimated to have captured a 90% market share in Spain by the end of June. This significant market penetration highlights the success of Celltrion's biosimilar strategy in the European market.

Omclero is a biosimilar version of Xolair, a drug originally developed by the Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis. Biosimilars are highly similar to existing approved biologic medicines and are intended to offer a more affordable alternative while maintaining comparable efficacy and safety profiles.

Celltrion has been actively expanding its global presence by establishing subsidiaries in key international markets. This direct sales approach allows the company to manage its product distribution and marketing more effectively. The Spanish subsidiary, in particular, has been instrumental in driving Omclero's market dominance, with operations extending to regions like Catalonia and the Basque Country in the first half of the year.
