CENTCOM: US, Saudi Forces Strike Iran-Aligned Sites in Iraq After Drone Attacks

U.S. and Saudi forces launched precision airstrikes in eastern Iraq on Tuesday, targeting sites used by Iran-aligned armed groups. The strikes followed a series of drone attacks against U.S. forces and Saudi energy infrastructure, according to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

CENTCOM stated that U.S. and Saudi fighter jets struck multiple logistics and weapons sites operated by what it described as Iran-backed terrorist groups. This military operation was a direct response to more than 30 drone attacks over the preceding 72 hours, which CENTCOM attributed to Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The command noted that the attacks targeting U.S. forces were unsuccessful.

CENTCOM also highlighted a sustained campaign by Iran-aligned militias, reporting over 600 attempted attacks on U.S. citizens and facilities in Iraq between February and April 2026. The command issued a stern warning, stating that the IRGC and its allied armed groups must cease such attacks to prevent further U.S. military responses.

There was no immediate comment from Iranian officials or the Iran-aligned groups operating in Iraq regarding the reported strikes. The extent of any damage or casualties resulting from the airstrikes remained unknown at the time of reporting.
