Central Java Energy Agency Denies Resident Claims on River Mining Impact

The Central Java Energy and Mineral Resources Agency (ESDM) has officially responded to accusations made by residents of Sambeng Village in Borobudur, Magelang. The villagers had voiced strong objections to ongoing sand and stone mining operations along the Progo River, citing negative environmental impacts.

Residents of Sambeng Village had previously protested the mining activities, asserting that they were causing significant damage to the Progo River ecosystem. Their concerns reportedly centered on issues such as riverbank erosion, changes in water flow, and potential harm to local livelihoods dependent on the river.

However, the ESDM agency has now issued a statement refuting these claims. The agency denies that the current mining operations are having the detrimental effects described by the villagers. This official denial sets up a conflict between local community concerns and the government agency's assessment of the mining's environmental footprint.
