Central Java Governor 'Tired' of Regional Heads Caught in Corruption Raids

Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has voiced his exasperation with the persistent corruption among regional leaders in his province, stating he is "tired" of issuing warnings. His remarks followed the arrest of Pemalang Regent Anom Widyantoro in an anti-graft operation, making him the fifth regent or mayor in Central Java to be apprehended by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) this year.

"I am very concerned and deeply regret this situation," Luthfi told reporters at his office on Wednesday, July 29, 2026. He detailed numerous efforts undertaken to prevent corruption, including joint retreats, inviting the KPK for supervisory support, and establishing MoUs and integrity pacts with regional heads. "I have gathered them, even nagging them, to deliver our message," he added.

Despite these measures, the governor admitted his confusion about what further steps could be taken. "What else can I do? I'm already tired," Luthfi said, half-jokingly. He declined to comment on the specific allegations against the Pemalang regent, which reportedly involve the buying and selling of positions, stating he would await an official statement from the KPK to avoid making further errors.

The governor's frustration highlights the ongoing challenge of combating corruption within regional governance in Indonesia, even with proactive measures from provincial leaders.
