Central Java Poultry Farmers Complain SPPGs Buy Eggs Below Reference Price

Poultry farmers in Central Java are struggling with the absorption of their egg production, citing issues with state-run nutrition service units (SPPG). Suwardi, chairman of the Central Java Poultry Farmers Cooperative (KPUS), stated that many SPPGs are failing to purchase eggs at the government's reference price (HAP).

An agreement made in June 2026 between farmer associations and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) stipulated that SPPGs would buy chicken eggs directly from farmers at the HAP. This agreement, witnessed by Central Java Vice Governor Taj Yasin, has not been fully implemented. Suwardi explained that SPPG managers, who have invested in the facilities, often refuse to adhere to the agreed-upon prices.

While BGN head Sudaryono suggested SPPGs buy eggs at Rp25,000 per kilogram at the farm gate, Suwardi noted that actual purchases are closer to Rp21,000-Rp22,000 per kilogram, even when delivered. He cited Kendal as an example, where only a few facilities committed to buying at Rp26,000.

Vice Governor Taj Yasin has called for an investigation into SPPGs purchasing raw materials below the reference price. He acknowledged the farmers' complaints that this practice, especially with rising feed costs, is detrimental. Yasin emphasized the need for commitment from all parties to prevent such issues in the future, highlighting that the MBG program aims not only to improve child nutrition but also to enhance the welfare of local farmers.
