Central Romana Corporation mourned the passing of Alfonso "Alfy" Fanjul, the co-owner and president who led the company for decades. The corporation lauded him as a transformative leader whose vision left an "indelible" mark on its history and strengthened the Dominican Republic's agroindustrial sector.

Born in Cuba to a family with a long history in the sugar industry, Fanjul and his brother José "Pepe" Fanjul consolidated one of the world's largest sugar groups. Since 1984, they spearheaded Central Romana's expansion, modernization, and diversification, solidifying its position as the Dominican Republic's top sugar producer and a key regional corporation.
