CFR Cluj Saves Romanian Football's Evening in European Cups, Only Team to Advance in Conference League

CFR Cluj salvaged Romanian football's honor in European competitions, becoming the only team to advance in the Conference League. The team decisively defeated Armenian side Alashkert 3-0, securing a 4-1 aggregate victory.

From the outset, CFR Cluj aimed to seal their qualification. Muhart's goal in the third minute put them in a commanding position. The match became a formality when Alashkert was reduced to 10 men in the 12th minute. CFR Cluj extended their lead just before halftime with a peculiar goal from Korenica, who scored with his knee after a miskick. Although CFR dominated the second half, Fică added a third goal in the 78th minute, sealing the 3-0 win.

CFR Cluj now prepares for a trip to Norway to face Tromso, who were eliminated from the Europa League. This victory stands as the sole positive outcome for Romanian football on a night marked by significant disappointments. FCSB suffered a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Estonia's FK Auda, resulting in a 7-3 aggregate loss. Universitatea Cluj also exited the competition after a 3-1 loss to Brann Bergen in Norway, following a 2-2 draw in the first leg. Only Universitatea Craiova remains in European competition, playing in the Europa League.
