Chabacano Metro access from Floating Garden to open this week; turnstiles to be installed

Access to the Chabacano Metro station from the Jardín Flotante in Mexico City will open this week, according to Raúl Basulto Luviano, Secretary of Works and Services (Sobse). This new access point will allow users to enter the Metro system directly from the Jardín Flotante, located on Calzada de Tlalpan, which was inaugurated in June.

Passengers will be required to pay the five-peso fare from the Jardín Flotante to enter the Metro. Unlike the San Antonio Abad station, where individuals can exit the elevated park without paying for Metro access, Chabacano will necessitate a fare payment for entry. A pedestrian bridge approximately 100 meters before the entrance will allow those not wishing to use the Metro to disembark without paying.

In the next few days of this week, we are opening the Chabacano station so the public can enter; where the Elevated Park ends, the turnstiles will be installed, meaning people will have to pay the five pesos from there to enter the Metro.

Basulto clarified that the Jardín Flotante project is complete, but the connection to the Chabacano Metro station required significant coordination with Metro authorities. This involved not only construction but also upgrades to Metro infrastructure, including electrical systems and line replacements. The two additional bridges for the project are also finished and in use. The secretary emphasized that the Metro station connection is not part of the garden itself but a distinct, albeit integrated, element.

The garden is already finished, and what we are now concluding is the Chabacano station; it has to do with coordination with the Metro, because in addition to the construction that was done, work by the Metro itself was carried out, lines were substituted regarding Metro operations, electrical issues. So, it was not a minor thing.
