Chang Yao Cup: UBA powerhouse gives SBL's Taiwan Beer a scare in new head coach's debut win

Taiwan Beer survived a scare from UBA powerhouse Taiwan University of Arts, ultimately clinching their first victory in the Chang Yao Cup with a 77-66 win. The game marked the debut for Taiwan Beer's new head coach, Wang Chien-wei, who saw his team tested throughout.

Taiwan Beer initially took a 19-12 lead in the first quarter, powered by Wang Chun-sheng's scoring. However, Taiwan University of Arts fought back in the second quarter, with Huang Shang-ming and Chang Shao-an hitting three three-pointers each, to take a 38-36 lead by halftime.

After the break, Taiwan Beer tightened its defense and, with point guard Tien Hao orchestrating the offense, managed to regain the lead, entering the final quarter up 52-47. In the decisive fourth quarter, Lu Chieh-min led the charge, extending Taiwan Beer's advantage to double digits for the first time at 64-54.

Despite the deficit, Taiwan University of Arts showed resilience, narrowing the gap to 71-66. However, Lu Chieh-min sealed the victory by making two of three free throws after being fouled on a three-point attempt, securing the win for Taiwan Beer.

The Chang Yao Cup, previously a high school tournament, has been reformatted this year as an exchange event between UBA and SBL teams. The aim is to create a platform for college and professional basketball to connect, giving potential players a chance to adapt to higher intensity competition.
