Chase and Crash Between Patrol Car and Motorcycle on Montevideo's Port Rambla Leaves Two Seriously Injured

A police pursuit in Montevideo's port district concluded with a severe traffic accident early Friday morning, resulting in serious injuries to the two individuals on a motorcycle.

The incident began when police attempted to stop a motorcycle carrying two suspects. The chase, involving multiple patrol cars, ended when the motorcycle collided with one of the police vehicles on Rambla 25 de Agosto, between Zabala and Solís streets. The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m., causing significant traffic disruptions that lasted for several hours.

According to Montevideo's Police Headquarters, both occupants of the motorcycle, a man and a woman with previous criminal records, suffered severe injuries. They sustained fractures to their lower limbs and were rushed to the nearby Hospital Maciel. Police confirmed that the individuals had allegedly committed several crimes, and various stolen items were found scattered on the rambla following the collision.

Law enforcement personnel, traffic police, and forensic experts worked at the scene. The incident was captured by surveillance cameras. The police report indicated that the crash was classified as "grave" due to the severity of the injuries sustained by those attempting to flee.
