Cheng Li-wen's 'Taiwan Not a Country' Remark Sparks Row; Envoy Says 'Green to Blue' Switchers Are Pro-China

KMT Chairperson Cheng Li-wen's recent assertion that "Taiwan has never been independent and has never been a country" has ignited significant debate. Many have questioned her drastic shift in stance, noting her past as a staunch "pro-independence" advocate within the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) before joining the Kuomintang (KMT).

I cannot help but admire 'green to blue' individuals for overcoming their conscience, and I emphasize that 'green to blue' individuals will definitely be anti-Taiwan and lick China.

In response to Cheng's remarks, Taiwan's Representative to the European Union, Hsieh Chih-wei, offered a pointed observation. He stated that he "cannot help but admire" individuals who transition from the DPP to the KMT, suggesting they must overcome their conscience. Hsieh emphatically declared that those who switch from "green to blue" inevitably become "anti-Taiwan and lick China."

Has anyone noticed? Those who switch from blue to green will definitely be anti-communist to protect Taiwan. Those who switch from green to blue will definitely be anti-Taiwan to lick China.

Hsieh further elaborated on his theory of political transitions, drawing a distinction between those moving from blue to green and vice versa. He posited that individuals switching from blue to green are driven by an innate conscience to protect Taiwan, which naturally leads them to oppose communism. According to Hsieh, once they oppose communism, they cannot remain within the "blue" camp (referring to the KMT).

As for being Taiwanese, protecting Taiwan is an innate conscience, so to protect Taiwan, one must oppose communism, and once one opposes communism, one cannot stay in the 'blue' camp.

Conversely, Hsieh suggested that those moving from green to blue must overcome their conscience. He argued that once conscience can be overcome, "there is nothing they cannot do," making appeasing China and opposing Taiwan an inevitable outcome, sooner or later. He also categorized those who remain in the "white" camp (presumably a neutral or undecided group) as uncertain in their stance on opposing communism or protecting Taiwan, suggesting they be termed "white mixed."
