Chiclayo: ONP inaugurates new Pensioner House facilities

The National Pension Office (ONP) has opened expanded facilities for its Yuyaq Casa del Pensionista in Chiclayo, Peru. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of life and well-being for older adults in the Lambayeque region by providing increased space for educational, recreational, and social activities.

Gastón Remy Llacsa, executive president of the ONP, stated that the new spaces represent an investment in people, enabling pensioners to continue learning and sharing experiences. Currently, 921 pensioners are part of the Chiclayo center. The expansion is projected to accommodate a significant increase in participants, potentially benefiting 12,699 pensioners in Chiclayo and 37,872 across Lambayeque.

Today we put new spaces at the service of our pensioners that will allow them to continue learning, sharing experiences, and participating in activities that promote active aging. More than an improvement in infrastructure, this is an investment in people.

Pensioners themselves shared positive experiences, with Liliana Monteza Bejarano highlighting how Yuyaq has helped her stay active and build connections. The center offers a variety of free workshops, including computer skills, smartphone use, cognitive stimulation, physical activities like yoga and taichi, dance, singing, and music. Health talks and cultural events are also provided to promote integral well-being.

The expansion reaffirms the ONP's commitment to developing services that foster participation, integration, and well-being among pensioners. Yuyaq Casa del Pensionista operates 12 centers nationwide, solidifying its role as a vital space for active aging.

Here we not only learn new things; we also find friends, share experiences, and discover that we still have much to do and enjoy. These new spaces will allow more pensioners to have this experience.
