Chicoloapan to Get New IMSS General Hospital as Part of Plan Oriente

Chicoloapan, located in the eastern part of the State of Mexico, will soon have a new General Sub-zone Hospital of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). Scheduled to open in January 2027, this facility is part of a broader effort to revive long-neglected, unfinished hospital construction projects.

The new hospital is a key component of the Plan Oriente, a joint initiative promoted by Governor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo and Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez. This plan aims to improve the quality of life for 10 million residents through infrastructure, mobility, education, water, and healthcare projects. The Chicoloapan hospital will provide much-needed medical services to thousands of families who currently must travel for treatment, thereby increasing healthcare capacity in the region.

Designed to serve more than 107,854 inhabitants of Chicoloapan and surrounding municipalities, the hospital will offer more accessible and timely medical attention. The facility will feature 57 beds and provide services across 10 medical specialties. It will also be equipped with diagnostic services, including X-ray, Ultrasound, and Electrocardiography, significantly expanding medical coverage and alleviating pressure on other regional hospitals.

The project involved the rescue and completion of an existing structure, ensuring it meets the necessary standards for safe and efficient medical care. The rehabilitation was essential to finalize indispensable works and equipment required for the hospital to function effectively. The opening of this facility represents a significant step in the Plan Oriente's strategy to enhance healthcare services in eastern Mexico State.
