Child Rescued Twice After Falling into Port in Lefkada

A 9-year-old child required rescue on two separate occasions after falling into the port of Nydri in Lefkada. The child had been inside a stationary vehicle in the port with a guardian and another person when the incident occurred.

According to the Port Authority, the child suddenly exited the vehicle and fell into the sea. The Port Authority immediately instructed passenger ships to temporarily halt their entry into the port. A crew member from the ship "MAKEDONIA PALACE," which was docked nearby, promptly jumped into the water and retrieved the child, who was reported to be in good health.

However, shortly after the first rescue, the child managed to slip away from those present and fell into the sea for a second time. This time, a private citizen who was at the location successfully pulled the child out of the water, unharmed, and returned them to their relatives.

The child was subsequently handed over to an ambulance from the National Center for Emergency Care (EKAV) and transported to Lefkada General Hospital for precautionary examinations. The Nydri Port Authority is conducting an investigation into the incident.
