Children in Uniform Draw Attention at Malaysia's National Day Celebration

Six-year-old Mohd. Jebat Nazri arrived at Malaysia's 69th National Day celebration in Putrajaya wearing a camouflage outfit because of his strong interest in commandos.

His mother, Siti Nor Mohd Yusof, said the family prepares the outfit whenever he attends events connected with the National Day celebrations. This year marked Mohd. Jebat's third time taking part in the parade.

“Of course he likes and is interested in commandos, so we prepare him in the same kind of clothing. Whenever they change their uniforms, we change his too,” Siti Nor said.

She said the family began preparing at 4 a.m. after waiting in their vehicle from about 10 p.m. so that her son would not miss the event.

A family from Port Klang, Selangor, also chose military-themed clothing for a child who admires soldiers and commandos. Mohamad Hafis Juhar said the outfit was bought specially for National Day after his child showed interest in the armed forces.

“We did not come last year, but we came two years ago when he was still small. Now he is older, so we wanted to bring him to see all the defence vehicles and assets, including tanks, up close,” he said. The family hoped the experience would strengthen the child's interest in a military career later in life.
