Chilean and Ecuadorian Presidents Arrive in Paraguay for Mercosur Summit

The presidents of Chile and Ecuador, José Antonio Kast and Daniel Noboa, have arrived in Paraguay to participate in the Mercosur Summit. The summit, bringing together Heads of State and Government of the South American trade bloc, is scheduled for Tuesday in Luque, a city near the capital, Asunción.

This visit marks a significant milestone for both leaders, as it is their first time in Paraguay as heads of state. Upon arrival at the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, both presidents were received by Paraguay's Vice Minister of Economic Relations and Integration, Patricia Frutos.

With Kast and Noboa's arrival, four leaders are now in Paraguay for the summit. They join Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi, who arrived earlier, and Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz, who arrived the previous day. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is expected to arrive on Tuesday morning.

Following the summit, President Kast is scheduled to undertake an official state visit in Asunción. His agenda includes participating in expanded sessions to discuss integration and sign agreements, as well as meeting with his Paraguayan counterpart, Santiago Peña. Kast is also expected to hold discussions with other regional leaders, including Ecuador's President Daniel Noboa. Additionally, the Chilean president will be received by the Paraguayan Congress on Tuesday.

Chile, Ecuador, Panama, Colombia, Guyana, Suriname, and Bolivia are associate members of Mercosur, which comprises Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Kast had previously visited Asunción in June 2025, during his presidential campaign, to attend the Madrid Forum.
