Chilean Regions Evacuate as Storms Swell Rivers and Streams

Chile is grappling with a severe weather system that has triggered widespread flooding and evacuations. The National Emergency Management Agency (Senapred) has activated its Emergency Alert System (SAE) across multiple communes as rivers overflow and streams become active. Residents in several areas have been ordered to evacuate due to the immediate danger posed by the rising waters.

In the Coquimbo region, evacuations are underway in sectors like Cruz de Caña and Quebrada Martínez in Coquimbo, and in the upper part of Pueblo Islón and Arrayán Costero in La Serena. The Elqui River's banks in La Serena are also a cause for concern, with warnings issued to avoid the area.

The Atacama region is also heavily impacted. Authorities have issued calls to avoid the banks of the Huasco River in Vallenar, Huasco, and Alto del Carmen. Evacuations have also been ordered in the Nicolasa sector of Freirina. The situation remains dynamic, with the alert system being updated as new threats emerge.
