China criticizes German visit to Taiwan

China has strongly criticized a German parliamentary delegation's visit to Taiwan, emphasizing its adherence to the "One China" principle. Mao Ning, spokesperson for China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Beijing "always rejects any official relations between its diplomatic partners and Taiwan."

"There is only one China in the world, and Taiwan is an inalienable part of China," Mao Ning asserted. She urged "relevant persons on the German side to abide by the One China principle and cease sending wrong signals to Taiwan independence forces." Beijing has previously made clear its intention to reunify Taiwan with the mainland.

The German government officially maintains diplomatic relations only with Beijing but also engages with Taiwan. The five-member German Bundestag delegation arrived in Beijing over the weekend with the stated goal of expanding relations with the island. The delegation is expected to meet with President Lai Ching-te on Tuesday. China considers Lai Ching-te a separatist, as his ruling Democratic Progressive Party advocates for Taiwan's independence.
