China's exports to US grow 17% in July amid trade tensions

China's export engine continues to gain momentum, with shipments to the United States showing a significant 17% year-on-year increase in July. This surge brought the total value of Chinese exports to the U.S. to $41.9 billion, up from $35.8 billion in July of the previous year, according to data released by China's customs administration.

The robust performance comes despite the protracted trade dispute between the world's two largest economies. The global boom in artificial intelligence is reportedly fueling demand for Chinese technology, contributing to the export figures. This indicates a resilience in bilateral trade, even amidst ongoing strategic competition.

Beyond the U.S. market, China's total exports saw a substantial rise of 23.9% in July compared to the same period in 2025. Imports also experienced strong growth, increasing by 27.5%. While this import growth was lower than the 36% seen in May, it still points to vigorous trade activity both domestically and internationally for China.
