Chinese Embassy Denies Failing to Issue Timely Warning for Nepal Floods

The Chinese Embassy in Nepal has strongly refuted allegations that China withheld timely warnings about the devastating floods and landslides that occurred in the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung area along the Nepal-China border. The embassy described these claims as misleading and untrue.

In a public clarification, the Chinese Embassy labeled two primary allegations circulating in Nepal as "fake news." These allegations suggested that China's failure to provide an early warning led to significant loss of life in Nepal, and that Nepal suffered major damage due to the collapse of a geological disaster dam on the Chinese side. The embassy firmly dismissed both assertions as false.

Contrasting the allegations, the Chinese side presented a different sequence of events. According to the embassy's statement, a landslide, triggered by an earthquake or an earthquake-like tremor, occurred on the Nepali side on the morning of August 26, 2026. This resulted in a massive landslide that caused considerable loss of life and left people missing on both the Nepali and Chinese sides of the border area.

The embassy urged both nations to concentrate their efforts on rescue and relief operations rather than engaging in mutual blame during this critical period. "Blame solves nothing; cooperation saves lives," the embassy stated, emphasizing the need for collaborative action.
