Thousands of Chinese internet users have flooded the social media accounts of the Gyirong border crossing with messages of support following its devastation by a recent flood. The crossing, which connects China's Tibet region with Nepal, was severely damaged by a torrent of water, ice, rocks, and mud.

Users have been actively commenting on older posts on the local social media platform Douyin, which typically showcased the daily operations of the crossing and its immigration agents. These messages express sorrow and hope for the well-being of those affected. "What a shame! I hope a miracle has happened and they are all okay," one user wrote, while another commented, "What happened is hard to believe."

Following the disaster, immigration authorities confirmed that several agents and workers associated with the post remain missing. Search and rescue teams have been deployed to the area. Many users have shared a video, reportedly from the 2015 Nepal earthquake, showing the main building of the Gyirong border crossing standing despite significant damage, highlighting the stark contrast with the complete destruction caused by the recent flood.

The Gyirong crossing is a crucial land route between Nepal and Tibet. The flood, caused by the collapse of a large glacier mass in Nepal, has resulted in significant casualties, with Nepal reporting 669 deaths and China reporting 7 deaths and 2,980 missing individuals.
