Chinese Woman Allegedly Trafficked to Myanmar Scam Compound After Thailand Trip

A 24-year-old Chinese woman named Qi Meng has allegedly been sold into a scam compound in Myanmar after traveling to Southeast Asia. The incident came to light through a report by Chinese influencer Chen Ze on Douyin, who has over 30 million followers.

Qi Meng, who was reportedly on her first international trip, spent a week in Malaysia before flying to Bangkok, Thailand, on September 2. According to online accounts, she disappeared after boarding a vehicle that was supposed to take her to Chiang Mai. Her family has reportedly been hospitalized due to the distress caused by her disappearance.

Speculation on Chinese social media suggests that Qi Meng was transferred through a human trafficking network in the Wa State of Myanmar and ended up in the Myawaddy scam park. Friends have posted appeals online, hoping to negotiate a ransom with her alleged captors.

Many Chinese netizens believe Qi Meng was too trusting of people she met online, making her vulnerable to such a scam. The incident has sparked discussions about the dangers of meeting strangers online and the importance of exercising caution when traveling, especially in regions known for such criminal activities.
