CHP Deputy Murat Bakan Resigns, Cites New Party Formation Under Özgür Özel

Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP) İzmir Deputy Murat Bakan has resigned from the party, a move that follows CHP Chairman Özgür Özel's recent statements about the potential formation of a new political party. Bakan announced his decision on social media, declaring his intention to continue his political journey within this new party under Özel's leadership.

Bakan detailed his extensive history within the CHP, highlighting his progression from local delegate to party assembly member, deputy chairman, and shadow interior minister. He noted that his entire family, including his parents, spouse, and child, are members of the CHP, making his departure personally difficult. "It is very difficult for my family. It is very difficult for me," Bakan stated.

Despite the personal challenges, Bakan expressed a commitment to upholding the CHP's core principles and the revolutionary ideals of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He framed his departure as a move to reclaim the party's essence from those he believes have merely occupied its name and buildings. "We are walking towards power under the leadership of Özgür Özel in our new party, leaving those who occupy the party only in name and buildings," he declared.
