Chris Brown Pleads Guilty, Avoids Assault Trial

American R&B singer Chris Brown pleaded guilty on Friday to a charge of assault stemming from a nightclub brawl in London in 2023. The prosecution announced it would not pursue more serious charges, including attempted grievous bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon, thereby sparing Brown a trial on these accusations.

Brown and a co-defendant, 40-year-old Omololu Akinlolu, are scheduled to be sentenced in October. The guilty plea relates to charges that they engaged in or threatened violence against another person in a manner that could cause them to fear for their safety. Brown had initially pleaded not guilty in June to charges of attempting to cause severe physical harm during an alleged unprovoked assault on producer Abraham Diaw at the Tate Mayfair nightclub.

Brown was arrested in May upon his arrival in Britain, his first visit since 2023. He was released on a bail of five million pounds, equivalent to approximately 43 million Danish kroner. The case stems from an incident at the Tate Mayfair nightclub where Brown allegedly assaulted producer Abraham Diaw.
