The launch of Rich Rum, a new premium spirits brand founded by cricket icon Chris Gayle, has been hailed as a significant boost for 'Brand Jamaica' and a testament to the nation's entrepreneurial spirit. State Minister in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Delano Seiveright, lauded the venture, emphasizing its potential to create globally recognized Jamaican businesses.

Speaking at the official launch event, Seiveright noted that Gayle's transition from a global sporting superstar to an entrepreneur sends a powerful message. He urged more Jamaicans to explore innovative, niche products with international appeal, moving beyond traditional business models. Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia 'Babsy' Grange also acknowledged Gayle's contributions to Jamaica and the significance of his new business endeavor.

Seiveright pointed to Jamaica's established global reputation in areas like premium rum, Blue Mountain Coffee, music, sports, and food products, suggesting the country is well-positioned for more globally competitive niche products. He called for exporting more Jamaican brands and intellectual property, citing companies like GraceKennedy, Seprod, and Sandals as existing examples of Jamaican excellence with global ambition. Seiveright also highlighted Jamaica's improving macroeconomic environment, including low unemployment, strong foreign reserves, declining public debt, and stable inflation, as a solid foundation for business expansion and investment.
