This remarkable outing placed him in rare company, becoming only the sixth pitcher since 1900 to record double-digit strikeouts without a walk in a shutout of that age.

Sale's dominance was evident throughout the game, including a 100.1 mph fastball against Shohei Ohtani in the third inning, his first pitch exceeding 100 mph since July 2018. He struck out Ohtani twice and finished his 109-pitch effort by fanning Alex Call. The Braves' lone run came courtesy of catcher Drake Baldwin in the bottom of the first inning. Facing Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Baldwin launched a solo home run on the first pitch he saw. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Baldwin's blast made him the first catcher in the modern era to hit a game-opening home run that proved to be the sole scoring play in a 1-0 victory. This specific type of win, with an initial homer deciding the game, is also a first for the Braves franchise since 1900.

This narrow victory further solidifies the Braves' strong season, improving their record to 79-55. They now trail the Dodgers (80-54) by just one game in the tight race for home-field advantage in the National League playoffs.
