Christian Council rallies support for Ghana Medical Trust Fund

The Christian Council of Ghana has declared its unwavering support for the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF), vowing to champion its cause and rally national backing for its life-saving mission. The Council views the GMTF's work as a direct extension of the Christian duty to care for the sick and alleviate suffering.

The Christian Council considers the work of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund an extension of the Christian responsibility to care for the sick and alleviate human suffering.

Rev. Dr. Cyril G. K. Fayose, Executive Secretary of the Council, stated that the GMTF's efforts mirror the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. "For us, this is the work of God," he said, emphasizing that providing treatment and hope to those unable to afford medical care aligns with core Christian values. He noted the Council's historical involvement, having been consulted during the GMTF's inception, and praised its leadership for significant progress within its first year.

Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, Administrator of the GMTF, addressed the Council, explaining the fund's founding principle: no Ghanaian should die due to an inability to afford or access necessary medical care. She described the harsh realities faced by families who deplete savings on medical bills, parents forced into impossible choices, and patients delaying critical treatment due to prohibitive costs.

For us, this is the work of God. Jesus Christ went about healing the sick and alleviating the pain and suffering of people. When you provide treatment and hope to someone who otherwise could not afford medical care, you are doing a work that is at the very heart of our Christian calling.

This is the gap that the Ghana Medical Trust Fund seeks to help address," Darko-Opoku stated.
