Chronic Hepatitis C cases increase due to free screening

Lithuania is experiencing a rise in diagnosed cases of chronic Hepatitis C, a trend attributed to the availability of free screening services. The initiative, launched in 2022, allows individuals born between 1945 and 1994, as well as those identified as belonging to risk groups, to undergo testing without charge.

Hepatitis A, B, and C are the most commonly detected forms in Lithuania. Chronic Hepatitis B and C are recognized as significant public health concerns. However, the outlook for Hepatitis C is largely positive if diagnosed promptly. The country offers effective treatment, which is covered by the state, leading to a high recovery rate for most patients.

The increased detection rates reflect the success of public health efforts to encourage testing and early intervention. This proactive approach is crucial for managing the long-term health implications of viral hepatitis and ensuring better patient outcomes.
