Chung-Ang University preliminarily selected for Ministry of Education's '2026 G-LAMP Project', to secure up to 25 billion won

Chung-Ang University has been preliminarily selected for the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea's '2026 University Basic Research Institute Support (G-LAMP) Project'. Upon final confirmation, the university is set to receive substantial government funding, potentially reaching 5 billion won annually for up to five years, totaling 25 billion won.

The G-LAMP initiative is a major national research support program designed to innovate university research institute management systems and cultivate future researchers through large-scale, interdisciplinary studies in basic science and engineering. Chung-Ang University was chosen as a recipient in the engineering field (Type II), specifically in the electrical, electronic, and communication domain, among universities in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The G-LAMP project selection provides stable research support for early-career faculty and postdoctoral researchers in science and engineering. Based on this, we have created an opportunity for Chung-Ang University to stand out through mutual exchange with excellent universities and research institutes worldwide.

The Chung-Ang University G-LAMP project team, led by Vice President for Research Go Joong-hyuk as project director and Graduate School Dean Kim Joo-heon as the focus theme research institute director, plans to establish the 'A-HUMAN Research Institute'. This institute will operate under the vision of '20W Intelligence, Beyond Human Limits', expanding research into the ultra-low power and high-efficiency mechanisms of the human nervous system, brain, and muscles. The research will focus on four key areas: Neural-Brain-Muscle-Human, aiming to develop core ultra-low power imitation technologies applicable to AI semiconductors, robotics, healthcare, and defense.

This G-LAMP project selection is an achievement that externally proves Chung-Ang University's outstanding research capabilities and competitiveness in the engineering field. We will provide unstinting support so that new researchers can fully immerse themselves in research and achieve world-class research results.

This project will also institutionalize an integrated management and differentiated support system for on-campus research institutes. Chung-Ang University will concentrate on nurturing promising young faculty and postdoctoral researchers, recognizing the project's emphasis on supporting early-career academics. The university also plans to create a research ecosystem that allows new researchers to immerse themselves by integrating and operating advanced research infrastructure, including semiconductor process equipment and GPU servers.

Graduate School Dean Kim Joo-heon expressed a strong sense of responsibility in leading the focus theme research institute, aiming to drive innovation in ultra-low power and high-efficiency technologies. He emphasized fostering interdisciplinary research across various fields, including chemical engineering, energy, and medicine, alongside ICT, electrical, and electronic engineering, to cultivate talent for future research. Vice President Go Joong-hyuk highlighted the collective effort behind the proposal's success and the opportunity to provide stable research support for young faculty and postdocs, paving the way for global collaborations and establishing Chung-Ang University as a leading institution. President Park Se-hyeon affirmed the university's commitment to supporting new researchers, enabling them to achieve world-class results.
