City Gas Tour 2026 Showcases Natural Gas Efficiency from Transport to Small Businesses

PGN is taking natural gas on the road in East Java, using a food truck, gas-powered vehicles and a mobile workshop to show how the fuel can support transport and business.

The City Gas Tour 2026 runs from Sept. 4 to 13 and visits four areas: Pasuruan, Sidoarjo, Surabaya and Bojonegoro. PT Perusahaan Gas Negara, the gas subholding of Pertamina, launched the tour in Jakarta on Sept. 4. It brought along a Compressed Natural Gas food truck, gas-fueled vehicles, a mobile workshop and members of gas-vehicle communities, including the Komunitas Mobil Gas and Komunitas Bajaj Gas.

PGN Director of Infrastructure and Technology Hery Murahmanta said the tour aims to bring information about natural-gas services closer to the public and demonstrate their everyday uses. “Through the City Gas Tour, PGN wants to improve public understanding that natural gas can support household, business and transportation needs,” he said. PGN's natural-gas services are available in 78 cities and regencies in Indonesia, he added, while the company continues developing related infrastructure and an ecosystem.

Hery said users can see direct cost efficiency when they use natural gas for vehicles or business activities. Muslihudin, a bajaj driver who has used gas fuel since 2014, said it helps reduce fuel costs during his long working day. An online airport taxi driver who uses a gas-powered car reported savings of up to about 5 million rupiah per month.

The food truck demonstrates another use of CNG. The gas fuels the vehicle and supplies energy for cooking. PGN Solution Operations Director Agoeng Pratomo Noegroho said CNG could reduce vehicle-fuel costs by about 40 percent and cooking-fuel costs by as much as 60 percent.
