CNTE commandeers buses to offer free passage at Tlalpan toll booth

In Mexico City, members of the dissident teachers' union CNTE commandeered public transport buses on their fourth day of national strike actions. Around 11:40 AM, the teachers arrived at the Tlalpan toll booth in four RTP buses and two other public transit vehicles, reinforcing their protest by making the toll free for motorists. Bus operators reported that the units were taken from Izazaga and that they were instructed to drive to the Tlalpan toll plaza. "Voluntarily by force," one operator described the situation as they waited for the buses to return. The CNTE members chanted "free passage" as they allowed vehicles to pass through two entry and two exit lanes. They also turned surveillance cameras at the toll booths away from their posts. By 1:30 PM, the CNTE had maintained free passage for three hours. The union is primarily demanding the repeal of the 2007 ISSSTE Law, and they also voiced apologies to the public for the disruption, stating the government's actions forced their protest. The CNTE has rejected proposals to eliminate the Usicamm, a body related to teacher appointments and evaluations.
