Coalition calls Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia a ‘dangerous escalation’ and vows ‘firm’ response

The Saudi-led coalition has called recent Houthi attacks on Saudi cities a “dangerous escalation” after strikes injured 73 civilians, including women and children.

Major General Turki Al-Malki, spokesman for the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, condemned the Iran-backed Houthi militia for attacking Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan and Najran. He said the attacks targeted Saudi Arabia, its national assets, citizens and residents.

“The escalation by the terrorist Houthi militia and its attempts to target Saudi Arabia, its national assets, its citizens, and residents on its territory is a dangerous escalation that confirms the hostile and irresponsible approach of this terrorist militia,” Al-Malki said.

He described the latest attacks on civilian and economic sites as a “blatant violation of the Kingdom's sovereignty and a direct threat to the security and safety of its citizens and residents.” He also accused the Houthis of deliberately damaging national resources, facilities and civilian sites, saying the attacks showed an extremist and criminal approach that rejects peace and stability in Yemen and neighboring Arab and Islamic countries.

Al-Malki said the coalition’s Joint Forces Command “will take all necessary operational measures to deter this militia and resolutely confront its hostile approach, in defense of the Kingdom’s sovereignty, the preservation of its national assets, and the safety of its citizens and residents.” He added that the command would act against the sources of the threat and neutralize its danger.
