Colombia celebrates second place in Central American and Caribbean Games

Colombia is celebrating its remarkable second-place finish at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo. The nation secured a total of 266 medals, a performance that the Colombian Olympic Committee (COC) highlighted as confirmation of the country's sporting growth and the successful generational shift among its athletes.

President Abelardo de la Espriella extended his congratulations to the 468 athletes, coaches, and families who contributed to this success. He pledged his administration's commitment to fostering national talent by providing greater opportunities and enhanced preparation. "To our 468 athletes who represented the flag in the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games: THANK YOU! You return home with 266 medals... and with second place in the overall medal table. An extraordinary result that demonstrates the immense talent, discipline, and greatness of our athletes," the president posted on X.

The Colombian delegation's 266 medals, comprising 91 gold, 98 silver, and 77 bronze, surpassed the 244 medals won three years prior in San Salvador. This achievement represents Colombia's second-best performance ever in the games, trailing only the 270 medals won in Barranquilla in 2018. The 91 gold medals also approach the 100 achieved in Mayagüez in 2010, maintaining Colombia's streak of exceeding 200 total medals for six consecutive editions.

COC President Ciro Solano expressed great satisfaction with the results, noting that Colombia's performance exceeded that of San Salvador. Mexico dominated the games with 407 medals (167 gold), followed by Colombia and Cuba in third place with 51 golds. Colombia's success is particularly noteworthy given its delegation was the sixth largest, competing against larger contingents from the Dominican Republic, Mexico, Venezuela, Cuba, and Guatemala.
