Colombia registers 89 femicides and 57,000 domestic violence cases by July 2026

Colombia registered 89 femicides and 74 attempted femicides between January 1 and July 31 this year, according to a report released by the Ombudsman's Office. The figures also include 20 transfemicides and 57,860 cases of domestic violence against women. The Ombudsman's Office compiled denunciations from the Attorney General's Office, revealing the ongoing violence women face in the South American nation. The departments of Putumayo, Guaviare, Quindío, and Nariño reported the highest number of femicides relative to their population density. Last year, Colombia recorded 191 femicides, 113 attempted femicides, and 26 transfemicides, with Caquetá, Casanare, San Andrés, Providencia, Santa Catalina, and Valle del Cauca being the most affected regions. Of the 57,860 domestic violence cases, 48,032 involved women over 18, 7,439 involved girls and adolescents, and 489 involved lesbian or non-heterosexual women. The report also detailed 16,451 sexual offenses during the first seven months of 2026. Of these, 3,583 were reported by women over 18, 12,457 by girls and adolescents, and 183 by lesbian or non-heterosexual women. Additionally, 166 cases of sexual exploitation of girls and adolescents were reported in the same period, a significant portion of the 319 cases from 2025. The report further indicated that 151 women were victims of human trafficking, with most cases concentrated in Arauca, Norte de Santander, Bogotá, and Putumayo.
