Colombia Renews Contract with Coach Néstor Lorenzo

Néstor Lorenzo will continue at the helm of the Colombian men's national football team after the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) officially confirmed the renewal of his contract. The duration of the new agreement was not disclosed.

The FCF stated that this decision reaffirms their support for Lorenzo's "technical process" as the team prepares for the upcoming World Cup cycle and other international commitments, including the Copa América in 2028.

Lorenzo, who took charge of the national team in 2022, has overseen a remarkable period of success. During his tenure, Colombia achieved an impressive 28-match undefeated streak. They were also the runners-up in the 2024 Copa América and secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In 51 international matches as Colombia's coach, Lorenzo has compiled a strong record of 31 wins, 12 draws, and 8 losses. The team's performance at the 2026 World Cup marked their best showing since the 2014 tournament. They topped their group, defeating Uzbekistan and Congo, and drawing with Portugal. Colombia advanced past Ghana in the round of 16 but was eliminated by Switzerland in the quarterfinals on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Colombia was the only nation to play matches across all three host countries: Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
