Colombia: Two civilians injured in bombing targeting Teruel municipal hall

An explosive device struck the municipal hall of Teruel, Huila, on Friday, August 7, injuring two civilians and raising security concerns in the region. The building, which also serves as the local police station, was targeted around 1:30 p.m. when the explosive was thrown at its facilities.

The two injured individuals were identified as private technicians performing internet service upgrades on the second floor of the building. They sustained minor injuries from the shrapnel of the improvised explosive device. Authorities confirmed that no police officers were harmed in the attack. The technicians were promptly transported to a local health center for medical attention, with their injuries assessed as not life-threatening.

Following the incident, the Huila Department Police commander, Colonel Mauricio Andrés Carrillo Álvarez, reported that police immediately activated defense protocols. A joint operation involving various security forces was launched to assess the situation, reinforce security in the town, and prevent further public order disturbances. Colonel Carrillo Álvarez condemned the attack, emphasizing that it endangered both civilians and the police officers serving the community.
