Colombian midfielder Andrés Arroyo chose Pachuca to develop his country’s young talent

Andrés Arroyo says he always wanted to join Pachuca because the Mexican club has a reputation for supporting young Colombian talent.

“I always intended to come to Pachuca. I discussed it with my agent. This team embraces young Colombians and helps them develop,” the 24-year-old midfielder said at his presentation. “I’m very happy because I achieved it. It will help me continue growing as a footballer.”

Although Pachuca officially presented him on Wednesday, Arroyo had already made his debut the previous Saturday. He played 26 minutes in the team’s 1-1 draw with Guadalajara in the sixth round of Mexico’s Apertura tournament.

The midfielder said he was adapting to coach Benjamín Mora’s approach, adding that Mora had trusted him despite his recent arrival. Arroyo began his career at Deportivo Cali and said the Mexican league’s fast, tactical style suits his game. He described himself as a dynamic player who likes shooting at goal, but said he must earn a place in the starting eleven through training.

Arroyo also welcomed the presence of compatriot Christian Rivera, whom he has known since his Deportivo Cali debut seven years ago. He called Rivera “like a father” to him. The Colombian also said Pachuca’s experienced attacking players, Venezuelan Salomón Rondón and Dutchman Oussama Idrissi, could help the team pursue victories. Pachuca will visit Juárez in the seventh round of the Apertura tournament.
