For 96 years, Nigeria has pursued a Commonwealth Games gold medal in the men's 100-meter dash, a title that has proven stubbornly out of reach. Despite a history rich with talented sprinters, this specific prize remains one of the nation's most elusive achievements in sports.

Nigerian women have consistently excelled in sprint events, leaving their mark on the Commonwealth Games. Mary Onyali claimed 100m gold in 1994, Blessing Okagbare won in 2014, setting a Games record, and Tobi Amusan secured the 100m hurdles title in 2022, also with a Games record. Nigeria also holds a Commonwealth record in para sports 100m, set by Adekunle Adesoji in 2002, demonstrating the nation's inherent speed.
