Community and Police Rescue Man in Mental Distress from Tree

Authorities and local residents in Nhat Son commune, Phu Tho province, collaborated to safely rescue a man who was in a state of distress and perched precariously on a tree branch. The 53-year-old man, identified only as Mr. B.V.V., has a known history of epilepsy and was exhibiting signs of severe mental instability.

The incident began around 4 p.m. on May 23, when local police received reports that Mr. V. had climbed a tree on X2 road. He was observed standing on a thin branch approximately 15 meters above the ground, appearing agitated and disoriented. The situation was deemed particularly dangerous due to his unstable mental state and the significant height.

Responding swiftly, the Nhat Son Commune Police, in coordination with local community leaders and residents, took immediate measures to ensure safety. They spread a thick layer of straw and set up protective padding beneath the tree to cushion any potential fall. Simultaneously, officers approached the man cautiously, attempting to de-escalate the situation and calm his agitated state without provoking further distress.

After nearly two hours of persistent communication and reassurance, the man was successfully assisted down to safety by the combined efforts of the authorities and the community. Following the rescue, police worked with his family to ensure he received a medical examination, treatment, and ongoing health monitoring.
