Police Set Up Rest Stop to Aid Travelers Returning Home for Holiday

As the September 2 holiday approached, a stream of vehicles flowed from Ho Chi Minh City towards the Mekong Delta provinces. On National Highway 1, near My Duc Tay commune in Dong Thap Province, amidst the bustling traffic, a special rest stop was set up by traffic police.

Officers from the Traffic Police Department of Dong Thap Province offered free water bottles, cold towels, and small snacks to travelers heading home. Many drivers, fatigued from hours on the road, pulled over upon seeing the "Meaningful Rest Stop" sign.

"The gift isn't large, but it's very timely for someone like me driving a motorcycle long distances," said Nguyen Quoc Vinh, 29, from Vinh Long province. "Having a place to stop, drink water, and then continue makes me feel less tired."

Beyond providing refreshments, the police also used the rest stops to educate people on traffic safety regulations. Travelers received leaflets and heard reminders about traffic rules, especially important given the expected increase in vehicles during the holiday.

The "Meaningful Rest Stop" initiative is a directive from the provincial police's Party Committee and leadership, with the Traffic Police's Youth Union and Women's Union spearheading the organization. This year, the program is running at two locations: Ho Chi Minh Road in Thap Muoi commune and National Highway 1 in My Duc Tay commune. Approximately 15,000 bottles of water, along with snacks and cold towels, are prepared to serve travelers during peak hours on August 28 and 29.
