Vietnamese Coast Guard Vessel Travels Over 100 Nautical Miles to Rescue Fisherman with Appendicitis

A Vietnamese coast guard vessel, SAR 413, undertook a significant mission, traveling more than 100 nautical miles to safely bring a fisherman experiencing severe abdominal pain ashore for urgent medical treatment. The fisherman, identified as 26-year-old N.V.C.T. from Dong Thap province, was aboard the fishing vessel TG 90368 TS when he developed symptoms strongly suggesting appendicitis.

The distress call was received on the evening of August 17th. At the time of the alert, the fishing boat was located approximately 109 nautical miles southeast of Vung Tau and 85 nautical miles east of Con Dao. The area was experiencing challenging weather conditions with southwest winds at force 5-6, gusting to 7-8.

Upon receiving the notification, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region III immediately mobilized the SAR 413 vessel. A military medical team was also dispatched to provide immediate care. The SAR 413 vessel successfully intercepted the fishing boat and transferred the patient onboard for medical attention.

The SAR 413 vessel arrived at the port in Phuoc Thang ward, Ho Chi Minh City, on the morning of August 18th. The fisherman was then handed over to relevant authorities and his family for continued medical treatment. The swift and decisive action by the Vietnamese maritime rescue services ensured the fisherman received timely medical intervention.
