Community rallies with funeral fund for Cuernavaca explosion victim

In Cuernavaca, a community is rallying around a grieving family after a tragic gas explosion claimed the life of Viviana Aguilar. Aguilar, 31, died a week after the blast, which occurred in the Granjas neighborhood. She had heroically shielded her six-year-old daughter, Isabella, from the initial blast, sustaining severe burns herself.

Isabella, who was also injured in the incident, has since been released from the hospital. However, Aguilar's condition worsened, leading to her death. A "GoFundMe" campaign, titled "Viviana and Isabella need help," was launched by Aguilar's sister-in-law, Michelle Quiroz, with a goal of one million pesos.

With great pain we share that Vivi is no longer with us, but the fight continues for her little Isabella, who was also injured in the accident and continues in recovery.

So far, the campaign has garnered over 203,000 pesos from 166 donations. Family and friends have also used social media to spread the word. The collected funds will now be used to cover Aguilar's funeral costs and provide for Isabella's ongoing care. Neighbors recalled Aguilar's selfless act of wrapping her daughter in her arms to protect her from the expanding wave of the explosion.
