Commuters' CPR relay at Wangsimni Station saves man's life

A dramatic scene unfolded at Seoul's Wangsimni Station when a man collapsed while using an escalator. The incident, captured on video, shows commuters immediately rushing to the man's aid.

As the man suddenly fell, bystanders moved him to a safer area. Officer Lee Hyun-woo of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, who was on his way to work, arrived and promptly began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). "I checked his consciousness, and he had no breathing or consciousness, so I immediately started CPR," Lee stated.

As Lee continued CPR, another citizen stepped in to take over, noticing the officer's fatigue. "The citizen asked to switch, perhaps seeing that I was getting tired," Lee recalled. Another passerby also joined the effort, and Lee continued to assist. He asked a bystander to massage the man's legs and continuously check his consciousness.

Station staff quickly brought an automated external defibrillator (AED), and following instructions from emergency dispatchers, they administered a shock. The man was transported to the hospital by paramedics and thankfully made a full recovery.

The video of the incident garnered over 340,000 views in three days, with viewers praising the collective action. Comments included, "How many people rushed to help? Even the Grim Reaper couldn't take him," and "This is what it means to be human."
