Compact 'baby' garbage truck aids waste collection in Mexico City

A novel, compact garbage truck, affectionately nicknamed the "baby" truck, is now navigating the streets of Roma Norte and Santa María la Ribera in Mexico City's Cuauhtémoc borough. The distinctive vehicle has already captured the attention and sympathy of local residents with its unique appearance.

The borough administration reported that this smaller truck has an approximate carrying capacity of 7 tons per trip and operates on two daily routes. In Santa María la Ribera alone, it makes 41 stops to serve residents. A key innovation of this "camioncito" is its design, which includes separate compartments for both organic and inorganic waste, promoting better waste management practices.

This "baby" garbage truck joins four other similar vehicles recently acquired by the borough in collaboration with the capital's government. The initiative underscores Cuauhtémoc's reinforced commitment to environmental sustainability and improving urban mobility within its jurisdiction. The introduction of these specialized trucks aims to enhance waste collection efficiency and support the city's broader environmental goals.
