Companies to suspend these lines without registration starting August 15; check the calendar here

Mexico is enforcing a mandatory mobile phone line registration system, requiring users to link their phone numbers with their unique population registry code (CURP). This initiative, announced by the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (CRT), aims to curb crimes such as extortion, fraud, and kidnapping.

The registration process began with phone lines ending in "0" and concluded on August 15. Lines not linked to a CURP by the deadline face suspension within 72 hours, restricting users to emergency calls only. Services will be restored once the line is successfully linked.

To register, users can visit their phone company's customer service center with a valid voter ID or complete the process online via their provider's website. The online method involves uploading a photo of the voter ID and verifying identity through the phone's camera.

The registration deadline extends through December 2026, with subsequent deadlines based on the last digit of the phone number. For example, lines ending in "1" have a deadline of August 31, and lines ending in "2" have a deadline of September 15. Currently, 71,011,768 phone lines, representing 49% of the total, have been linked to a CURP.
