Comptroller's Office follows up on citizen complaints about misuse of official vehicles

Panama's Comptroller General's Office is actively investigating multiple citizen complaints regarding the alleged improper use of official vehicles. The inquiry follows the detection of potential irregularities in vehicles assigned to the Pedregal Communal Board and the Ministry of Public Works (MOP).

In one instance concerning the Pedregal Communal Board, a complaint led to the discovery of an official vehicle without a license plate or visible institutional logo, parked at a private residential building. Reports suggest the vehicle was moved to this location due to alleged repairs needed in the communal board's parking areas.

The Comptroller's Office also received a complaint about an official vehicle from the Ministry of Public Works assigned to the head of Internal Audit. This case is also under verification.

As part of its process, the institution is compiling technical reports to ascertain the appropriate legal actions. If necessary, formal complaints will be filed with the Public Ministry, consistent with procedures used in similar investigations, such as one previously conducted at the Ancón Communal Board. These actions are part of broader national inspections by the Comptroller's Office aimed at strengthening oversight and ensuring the proper use of state assets.
