Conalep graduates first railway technicians in Quintana Roo, supporting national projects

Quintana Roo has graduated its first cohort of 151 students from the newly established Railway Transportation program at Conalep, marking a significant step in training specialized personnel for Mexico's rail infrastructure.

The graduates, from Conalep's Cancún IV and Chetumal campuses, are now equipped to work in the operation, maintenance, and safety aspects of the national railway system. This includes crucial support for the ambitious Tren Maya project, a key priority for the Mexican government.

According to the Secretary of Public Education, Mario Delgado, this initiative is part of a broader strategy to align educational offerings with the country's priority projects. The program aims to address the growing demand for skilled professionals in the railway sector, ensuring that national projects are supported by highly capable Mexican talent.

With the New Mexican School, we train young people with the knowledge and skills that the country demands. This first generation of railway technicians will contribute to strengthening the Tren Maya and the development of the national railway system with highly trained Mexican talent.

The Railway Transportation career was created in 2023, making Quintana Roo the first state in Mexico to offer such a specialization at the upper secondary education level. The graduates receive a Professional Technician Bachiller title, enabling them to enter the workforce with specialized skills, alongside a certificate for potential university studies.

During their training, students gained practical experience through internships at Tren Maya facilities. This hands-on experience covered areas such as railway maintenance, operational control, safety protocols, and transportation management. The SEP highlighted that this program not only strengthens national mobility and creates quality jobs but also ensures that Mexico's railway projects are operated by well-prepared, socially conscious Mexican professionals.
