Concerning Conditions at Religious Affairs Office, Lawmaker Pushes for Budget Increase

Singgih Januratmoko, Deputy Speaker of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has drawn attention to the dilapidated state of the Office for Religious Affairs (KUA) in Bulu Subdistrict, Sukoharjo Regency. During a working visit on Tuesday (4/8/2026), Januratmoko emphasized that KUAs, as the primary service and guidance centers for the community, require more serious attention regarding their infrastructure and the welfare of their staff.

The Bulu KUA was specifically chosen for the visit due to its location in the southernmost part of Sukoharjo and its building condition, which is in dire need of renovation. Januratmoko engaged in discussions with officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs in Sukoharjo Regency and local religious registrars to understand the challenges faced on the ground. Muhammad Safi'i, Head of Islamic Community Guidance at the Sukoharjo Regency Ministry of Religious Affairs office, explained that the Bulu KUA has 14 civil servant employees.

However, Safi'i pointed out a significant hurdle: the land on which the KUA stands is still owned by the regional government. This land ownership status prevents the construction of a new building through the Ministry of Religious Affairs' development budget. "We hope for a joint solution. Because the land is still owned by the regional government, building a new office through the Ministry of Religious Affairs' development budget cannot be done. Even though the condition of the Bulu KUA needs attention to improve public services," Safi'i stated. He described the current building as "quite concerning," with a fragile roof and ceiling that have previously sustained damage.

Furthermore, the limited space for storing marriage certificates does not meet national archive security standards. The lawmaker's visit and subsequent call for increased budgetary support underscore the critical need to address the infrastructure and operational deficiencies within these vital community service centers. Improving the KUA facilities is seen as essential for enhancing the quality of services provided to the public.
