Conmebol allows Cerro Porteño to use pyrotechnics for player reception

Cerro Porteño has received authorization from Conmebol to use pyrotechnics for their upcoming Copa Libertadores match against Palmeiras. The club plans a grand reception for the players, which will include fireworks and neon gases. This permission was confirmed by Commissioner Isidro Benítez, who stated that Conmebol has approved specific areas for the pyrotechnic displays.

The authorization specifically permits the use of fireworks and colored neon gases for the players' entrance onto the field. However, a key condition is that these displays must occur outside the established security perimeter to avoid sanctions. "Conmebol authorized the places where the explosion is permitted," Benítez explained, adding that "with the fireworks outside the security ring, there is no sanction from Conmebol."

This decision comes after Cerro Porteño formally requested the use of pyrotechnics from the South American football governing body. The request was accepted during a security meeting. "There are certain permitted objects that Conmebol has enabled for Cerro Porteño for the reception," Benítez noted.

Cerro Porteño has faced disciplinary actions in the past related to pyrotechnic use. Notably, the club was sanctioned by Conmebol for its reception during a 2019 Copa Libertadores quarter-final match against River Plate. This resulted in Cerro Porteño playing a subsequent match without fans against Universitario in the 2020 preliminary phase.
