Construction delays impact RE1 train services in Germany

Passengers using the RE1 train line in Germany face continued delays due to ongoing construction work. Deutsche Bahn announced that while trains heading towards Berlin will resume service at the Berkenbrück station starting August 15, services in the direction of Frankfurt (Oder) will not restart until November 29. Rail replacement services will be in operation until then.

In Berkenbrück, trains towards Berlin will stop again from August 15, towards Frankfurt (Oder) only from November 29.

Deutsche Bahn is now assessing whether the construction schedule can be accelerated. The new Fangschleuse station is scheduled to open as planned on August 15. Initially, trains on the RE1 line heading towards Frankfurt (Oder) will stop at Fangschleuse. From August 24, the station will also accommodate trains traveling towards Berlin.

Currently, construction is underway at several stations along the RE1 route between Berlin Ostbahnhof and Frankfurt (Oder), including Berkenbrück, Jacobsdorf, and Pillgram. The primary goal of these works is to extend the platforms to 220 meters, allowing them to accommodate eight-car train sets which offer significantly more seating capacity. New switches are also being installed at these stations.

Then, trains of the RE1 in the direction of Frankfurt (Oder) can stop there first. From August 24, stops towards Berlin should then also be possible.

The current closure of the RE1 connection between Berlin Ostbahnhof and Frankfurt (Oder) is expected to be lifted on August 15, coinciding with the resumption of services at Berkenbrück for trains heading east.
